Geraldine "Joyce" Zander Molenhour

October 29, 1927 - December 10, 2020


Geraldine “Joyce” Zander Molenhour, 93, of Greensburg passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020, in her home.

She was born October 29, 1927, in Indianapolis, the daughter of George Gerald and Gertrude Lorene (Whittington) Smith. On January 20, 1950, she married her husband of 35 years Gerald Zander, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1985. She married Ray Molenhour on October 19, 1989, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2019.

Joyce is survived by her children, Jane Henry and husband, Ray, of Claremore, Oklahoma, Judith DeMilo Brown and husband, Floyd, of Belgrade, Maine, Karl Zander and wife, Susan, of Plantation, Florida, Susan Siebenthal and husband, Danny, of Indianapolis, Mark Zander and wife, Liz, of Beech Grove, and Eric Zander of Indianapolis; step-daughter, Carla Ross and husband, Tim, of Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry; sisters, Barbara and Carolyn; two grandchildren; and step-daughter, Sheryl Rae Molenhour.

Joyce graduated in 1945 from Washington High School.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served in various capacities and was the organist for over 70 years. Joyce was an ordinance worker at the Louisville Temple from May of 2000 to May of 2011.

Joyce retired in December of 1992, as the executive secretary to the president of the Board of Church Extension of Disciples of Christ, with 33 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered at the Decatur County Hospital for several years.

She enjoyed reading autobiographies, gardening, and feeding and watching the birds. Joyce also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidering and sewing. She loved music and playing the piano and organ.

Spending time with family brought her the greatest joy, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2020, at the funeral home, with Darrell Evans officiating.

Interment will be at Hebron Cemetery in Decatur.
