Julius Clyston Bledsoe

April 29, 1926 - May 29, 2017


Julius Clyston Bledsoe, 91, of Waldron, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at his residence.

He was born April 29, 1926, in Clay County, Tennessee, the son of Charlie Samuel and Maude Bell (Emberton) Bledsoe. On July 3, 1948, he married Zelma “Jestine” Hay, and she preceded him in death in January of 2005.

Julius is survived by his daughter, Jeannetta “Faye” Stickford and husband, Victor, of Waldron and Annetta Gay Roberts and husband, Clarence, of Atlanta; son, Bill Bledsoe and wife, Melinda, of Noblesville; brother, Winford Bledsoe of Noblesville; sister, Annette Greer of Fishers; grandchildren, Timothy W. Tucker, Danny R. Tucker and wife, Darlene, James A. Tucker, Jennifer F. Sebbas, David Roberts and wife, Sheila, Pam Roberts, and Diana Southard and husband, Matt; step-grandchildren, Teresa Stickford, and Jeff Stickford and wife, Crystal; 11 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Veto Bledsoe, William Bledsoe and Wallace Bledsoe; and sisters, Freida Burgess and Ruenell Kessler.

Julius was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II. Stationed at Camp Swift, Texas Company B Ninth Infantry and final discharge, 24th November 1946, Fort Meade, Maryland Troop D, 16th Constabulary Squadron, serving in Berlin, France and Czechoslovakia.

He was a carpenter with Indianapolis Carpenter Local Union 60 for 50 years, retiring in the 1980’s.

Julius was a 50-year member of the Hamilton County Masonic Lodge No. 533.

He was a hardworking man and enjoyed buying and selling cars and jewelry. Julius liked people and enjoyed visiting with them.

He and his daughter, Faye, went on the Indy Honor Flight to Washington D.C. last year to visit the war memorials.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
