Virginia Ellen "Ginger" Thomas

February 02, 1941 - June 23, 2017

Virginia Ellen "Ginger" Thomas, 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.

She was born February 2, 1941, in Eldred, Illinois, the daughter of Andrew Curtis and Mary Geneva (Fowler) Barnett. On May 5, 1960, she married her husband of 57 years, Leonard Thomas, and he survives.

Virginia is also survived by her sons, Edward L. Thomas and wife, Joanie, of Edinburgh, James Leonard Thomas and wife, Pamela, of St. Paul, and Jeremy L. Thomas and wife, Allison, of Shelbyville; daughters, Patsy Ann Zobel of Fairland and Jennifer Gay Roberts and husband, Peter, of Indianapolis; brother, Andrew Curtis Barnett Jr. and wife, Barb, of Redding, California; sisters-in-law, Sue Carolyn Brown and husband, George, and Shirley Ann Davidson, both of Franklin, Kentucky; grandchildren, Daryl Thomas and wife, Diana, Morgan Brockman and husband, Aaron, Whitney Thomas, Benjamin Thomas and wife, Lynnette, Isaiah Thomas and wife, Kylee, Hannah Biller and husband, Kent, Alexis Zobel, Andrew Zobel, Joseph Roberts and Emily Roberts; great-grandchildren, Mia Thomas, Ezri Thomas, Riley Brockman, Quinn Brockman, Arianna Thomas, Caroline Thomas, Luke Thomas, Brooklyn Thomas, Ruby Thomas, Eli Biller and Griff Biller; granddog, Daisy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Jackie Barnett and Garnetta Barnett.

Virginia graduated from White Hall High School in White Hall, Illinois in 1959.

She was a U.S. Army veteran.

Virginia was a wonderful seamstress.

She enjoyed sewing, traveling and her flower gardens.

Virginia cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the funeral home, with Pastor Aaron Brockman officiating.
