Dannie B. Lummis

February 15, 1935 - November 28, 2017

Our mom, Dannie Lummis went out in style on Tuesday, with her favorite (and only) three kids by her side.

Mom was a life-long Shelbyville resident and could never imagine living anywhere else. She married her high school sweetheart, Ronnie in 1954, and they lived on South Street for a few years before building a home in Beechbrook. (It was a great place to raise a family!) Mom, a beautician, ran a beauty shop out of our home. It was common for us to come home from school on Thursday and Friday afternoons to a house full of women in various stages of beautification.

Later, Mom went to real estate school and went to work for Grigsby Realty, which later became Carpenter Real Estate. Never one to be a pushy sales person, she was loved by her clients for her honesty and integrity. Toward the end of her 30+ year career, she was selling homes to some of the grandchildren of her early customers.

Mom had many interests, however, arts and crafts were among her favorites. In her 40’s, she took a painting class. She continued to hone her skills in acrylics and watercolors and won the Knauf Fiberglass Christmas Card Award for her painting “Tom’s New Sled.” For those who have been to the Grover Museum, you might notice the scene that mom helped paint in the train room. She was always willing to lend a hand with a paintbrush in it.

Through the years, Mom was a member of the Jayshees, the Shelby County Art Guild, Kiwanis, multiple Bridge Clubs and the Block Party quilt club, just to name a few. She loved her church, First Christian, and donated many hours to the Food Bank. She enjoyed live theater, and STILL insisted that the Shelby County Players version of “Nunsense” was the best one she has ever seen!

Mom lived a long and full life and is survived by her three kids, 8 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids (and a bun in the oven) AND her “girls” Khloe and Kyra…a Bichon and a Poodle Bichon Mix.

Per Mom’s wishes, she will be cremated. The family will conduct a private burial service and will announce a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Here’s to you, Mom. “Clink.” (That’s the sound of our three wine glasses toasting our wonderful mother on a life well lived!)
