Mrs. Small was a gracious and kind lady. I knew her primarily as Coach Small's wife. I was one of Coach Small's basketball players at Shawswick High School in Lawrence County, IN. My parents took me and two of my fellow ball players to their wedding I believe in Shelbyville. It was a cold and snowy December night as I recall. It was fun to tease Coach when he was courting Niola. I think they met when he went to the doctor and she was his nurse. They made a great couple and I admired them both and coach had a great influence on my life. He was strict and made us players give our best. We lost one game my senior year even though we primarily played schools much bigger than ours. We lost in final game of sectional to a team we had beat by 13 points during the season. When Coach would get frustrated with my play he would say, "Hells bells Boyd, can't you do better with/at...." Our best player, Larry Turpen, earned a scholarship to play ball at IU. Some of my fondest memories are the years in high school and Coach Small and Mrs. Small were 2 reasons why. Jennifer and Douglas, you had great parents. God bless you in your grief and may He give you extra strength to work through this great loss. |

Jennifer and Doug, so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. We worked together in the surgery department at Tipton. My husband and I visited with her a couple years ago, after she moved to her new apartment. She was such a sweet lady and I enjoyed working with her. You have my sincere condolences.

Niola was such a special person. I just loved her personality and looked forward to spending time with her whenever she would come to town to visit Jennifer. Even though I haven’t worked with Jen in many years, Niola still, up and until even this last Christmas, always made a point to reach out to me on my birthday and holidays, to wish me well and catch up. May my dear friend, Ni, find peace in heaven with her loved ones that have been waiting for her and may those she left behind find the strength and healing required to carry on without her.
All my love to you, Jennifer. I will be praying for you, Doug, sweet Niola and all of your family. |
