Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory evolved from the long standing Carmony-Ewing Funeral Homes shortly after Mike Freeman moved to Shelby County on April 7, 1998. Within three years, the opportunity to purchase the funeral home in Shelbyville made itself available to Mike, who completed the transfer of ownership in December of 2001.
The long-time dream of his to own a funeral home became reality. Ownership expanded the following year (2002), when he purchased the Frazier Funeral Home in Morristown from the Carlton’s.
During the next five years, both of the funeral homes were remodeled extensively and additions were made.
In 2006, Mike purchased a motorcycle hearse from the Tombstone Hearse Company, which offers families a special final ride of remembrance to honor and celebrate their loved one. Freeman Family Funeral Homes also rents the Motorcycle Hearse to other funeral homes to assist in their families’ celebrations of the lives of loved ones.
Growth in the business brought Mike’s wife Lana on board as office manager at the funeral homes, and to assist families.
Ryan Haehl joined the Freeman family business on April 7, 2008 upon graduation from Mid-America School of Mortuary Science. Mike, Lana, and Ryan formed a great working relationship and friendship that continues today to enrich Freeman Family Funeral Homes, allowing the business to offer the most professional and personal services in the Shelby County area. A dedicated team of compassionate part-time employees is always available to help families through a difficult time, too.
The Freeman’s purchased the first crematories in Shelby County, human and pet, in September of 2008, offering this service to the residents of Shelby County and surrounding areas.
The additions of adult- and child-sized horse-drawn hearses in March of 2010 and the LED message board in 2011, show the vast array of services available at the funeral home from antique to modern technology. The LED message board highlights service times and community events.
Being a part of Shelby County and supporting events in the community and area is very important to all of us at Freeman Family Funeral Homes.
Life brings smiles, tears and memories . . .. The smiles fade, the tears dry, but the memories live on forever.
