Allan Gene Karnes, Sr., 78, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his residence.
He was born July 3, 1940, in Adair County, Kentucky, the son of Vertis and Myrtle E. (Smith) Karnes. On May 16, 1960, he married Margaret Ann Munden, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2017.
Allan is survived by his daughters, Sue Moore and husband, Rod, Kimberly D. Karnes, Margaret Jean Karnes and Kathy Lewis, all of Shelbyville; sons, Gary Wayne Karnes and wife, Mandy, and Larry Scott Karnes and wife, Gina, all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Mandy, John, Justin, Sabrina, Roddy, Miranda, Jessika, Samantha, Alexis, Dallas, Jennifer, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Larry Jr. “Bub”, Reggie K. and Kaitlyn; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to Margaret, Allan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allan G. Karnes, Jr.; and brother, Charles Karnes Sr.
Allan graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1958.
He retired from Detroit Steel in Morristown, with over 30 years of service, in 2000.
Allan enjoyed fishing, country music, Kentucky basketball and the Dallas Cowboys.
He loved his family and was devoted to attending their events.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the funeral home, with Seth Taylor officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
