Allen P. Palmer

February 9, 1936 — June 25, 2016

Allen P. Palmer, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 9, 1936, in Correct, the son of George Leo and Maebelle (Thomas) Palmer. He married Betty Jane Shriner on June 29, 1958, and she preceded him on January 24, 2002. Allen is survived by his daughters, Debbie Palmer and Elizabeth Curtiss, both of Shelbyville, and Barbara Coleman of Indianapolis; sons, Jack Palmer and wife, Mary, and Robert Palmer and wife, April, both of Shelbyville; a sister, Edna; two brothers, Eugene and Kenny; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Lee Palmer; eight brothers, Harry, Glenn, Earl, Francis, Lester, Stevie, Melvin and Leroy; and three sisters, Maydean, Marie and Mary. Allen graduated from Versailles High School in 1954. He retired in 1998, as a punch press operator for Link Belt, with over 30 years of service. Allen enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR and going to the auction house. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Cops for Kids, by bringing a teddy bear to the service for officers to give to children for comfort.
