Annie West

Annie (Porter) West, 98, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. Born April 8, 1908, in Mullartown, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Jane (Gordon) Porter. She married William M. West on Aug. 2, 1940, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Robert F. (wife, Mary) West of Fishers and Gordon P. (wife, Pat) West of Stuart, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Ann (husband, Leon) Beaty of Boggstown; and 10 grandchildren, Jeff (wife, Donna) Beaty of Needham, Dan (wife, Chris) Beaty of Greenfield, Dana (husband, Bill) Sherwood of Indianapolis, LeAnne (husband, Randy) Zentz of Westfield, Gary (wife, Kim) West of Oceanside, Calif., Rob West of Denver, Colo., John West of Bardstown, Ky., Catherine (husband, Paxton) Ellis of Port St. Lucia, Fla., Perry West of Jupiter, Fla., and Kathy (husband, Warren) Harling of Fishers; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; two brothers; and one grandson, Jimmy West. Mrs. West had lived in Indianapolis until 1969, then in Largo, Fla., for 25 years before returning to Indianapolis and to Shelbyville for the last several years. She was a member of the Caledonia Club of Indianapolis. Mrs. West had been a homemaker and loved to read, knit, do crafts and write letters. In her later years, she also began to enjoy e-mailing. She was a member of the Meridian Street Methodist Church and Church of the Lake, Indian Rock Beach, Fla. No visitation is planned. Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 118 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176, or to Hospice of Shelby County, 110 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
