Arlene Bright Smith Edmonds, 74, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Fransican St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
She was born May 6, 1939, in Marion County, Kentucky, the daughter of Oscar and Hattie (Spurling) Bright. She married Cordell Edmonds on May 5, 2000, and he survives.
Other survivors include brother, Oscar Vincent “Wink” Bright of Shelbyville; sisters, including her twin sister, Aileen Thurston and husband, Wesley, Madeline Warfield and husband, Marvin, Edith Gehring, Polly Ann Bright and Sandra Coffey, all of Shelbyville, and Jeanette Hopkinson of Yakima, Washington; step-daughters, Vicky Gray and Sandy Boucher and husband, David, both of Shelbyville; step-sons, Kent Edmonds and wife, Rosana of Indianapolis and Timothy Edmonds and wife, Nicole of Fishers; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Jack O. Smith on June 23, 1997; brothers, J. T. Spurling, Oscar “Henry” Bright Jr., Raymond Bright and Donald Bright; sister, Jewell T. Clements; brothers-in-law, George Gehring, Frank Coffey and Ed Clements.
Mrs. Edmonds lived most of her life in Shelbyville.
She was formerly employed at the A&W Bear’s Den Drive Inn Restaurant for 35 years.
Arlene enjoyed fishing, camping, four-wheeling and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bryan Trotter officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
