Arthur George Coers, 90, of Fairland passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Major Hospital.
Born April 15, 1918, in Addison Township, he was the son of Jacob Lewis and Lizzie Maggie (Stohry) Coers. He married Wilma Jean Fields on September 8, 1940, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Donna (husband, Owen) Moudy of Covington, Cheryl (husband, Arthur) DePrez and Janet (husband, Michael) Wallace, both of Shelbyville, and Carol (husband, Paul) Huttlin of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Faye Fields of Lafayette and Judy Coers of Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd Coers, Louis Coers and Herbert Coers; half brother, Roy Coers; and grandson, Matthew Huttlin.
Mr. coers was a Fairland resident most of his life, wintering in Florida since the early 1970s.
He was a farmer,retiring in 2004, at the age of 86.
Mr. Coers attended Addison Township and Shelbyville Schools.
He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and an associate member of First Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Florida. He was a charter member of Triton Community Lions Club and a 50-year member of Sugar Creek Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Timothy Lueking and Tom Strong officiating.
Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.
