Barbara L. (Allen) Mayes

Barbara L. (Allen) Mayes, 83, of Franklin, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at her residence. She was born October 14, 1932, in Shelby County, Kentucky, the daughter of Kelly and Lyda (Smith) Allen. On December 27, 1952, she married Donald Gene Mayes, and he preceded her in death on January 16, 2014. Barbara is survived by her son, Ronald Mayes and wife, Gloria, of Ingalls; a daughter, Sharon Mayes of Franklin; half-brother, Joe Allen and wife, Connie, of Ashland, Kentucky; grandchildren, Nicholas and wife, Nicole, April, Kyle and fiancee’, Jennifer Sosbe and Shelby and fiancé, Sawyer Brown; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Oliver Jack, Josette and Oliver Anderson; and a niece and a nephew. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Macie Boston and Glima Rowe. Barbara was a member of Bengal Christian Church. She graduated from Anderson High School. Barbara enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening, canning and shopping. She also leaves behind her dog, Thumper. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the funeral home, with Rev. Doug Adams officiating. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, 1099 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.
