Barry L. Carter

Barry L. Carter, 72, of Knightstown, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 21, 1943, in Indianapolis, the son of Earl Carter and Josephine (Dennis) Carter-Spitler. He married Barbara J. Davis on February 10, 1968, and she survives. Barry is also survived by his daughter, Leslie Higer and husband, Matthew, of Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; son, Bradley Carter and wife, Jennifer, of Knightstown; sister, Susan Thompson and husband, Tom, of Carmel; brother, Dennis Carter and wife, Barbara, of Cicero; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Barry graduated from Knightstown High School in 1961, he received his bachelor’s degree in management and finance from Indiana University-Richmond. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during Vietnam. Barry and his wife, owned and operated the Knightstown Antique Mall for 23 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 152, where he also served on the Honor Guard. They will be performing military honors. Barry loved MG’s and he was a member of several MG organizations. He was the promoter for Indy Toy Soldier show for 27 years. He was very civic minded and served on many community and municipal boards. Barry was a world traveler and avid historian. Private family services will be observed. Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to Henry County Community Foundation, 700 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
