Betty Gabel Drake, 92, passed away on July 12, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana where she had been residing for over 25 years. Previously Betty had resided in Shelbyville, Indiana and was born and raised in Hanover, Indiana.
She was married to Vaughn Drake who preceded her in death at the age of 49.
Surviving Betty are her devoted children, daughter, Barbara Droullard of Indianapolis; and son, Doug (wife, Cindy) Drake of Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Bill (wife, Barb) Clouse, Jason (wife, Stephanie) Drake and Andy (wife, Jessica) Drake, all of Indianapolis and Tessa (husband, James) Wolsiffer of New Palestine and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, preceding her in death were her parents; and two sisters, Fran Brown and Wilma Ward.
Betty attended Hanover College where she met her future husband, Vaughn, and where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi sorority.
Betty was a retired Social Worker who loved helping people and was a great friend to many.
She was also a member of Ben Davis Christian Church in Indianapolis, First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, Alpha Delta Phi Sorority, Order of Eastern Star, Town and Country Homemakers Club, Voyager Airline Club and many different Bridge Clubs.
Our mother was a joy to all who knew her and was a guiding light to her family, who will profoundly and forever miss her.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
