Betty Haley Rettig, 93, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born August 16, 1915 in Newton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Daniel J. and Mary Jane (Robertson) Huff. She married Earl C. Haley on November 8, 1936 and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1984. On December 28, 1985 she married George Rettig, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Trudy (husband, John) Kruczek of Gainesville, Florida and Mary Jane (husband, Steve) Allen of Waldron; son, Michael (wife, Carol) Haley of Fishers; daughter-in-law, Lorie Frazier-Haley of Shelbyville; grandchildren, J.P. Kruczek, Joshua Kruczek, Erin Kruczek, Melisaa Haley-Dixon, Derek Haley, Sarah Allen and Rebecca Allen; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny Edward Haley and two sisters.
Mrs. Rettig resided in Shelbyville most of her life, living in Fort Myers, Florida from 1990 to 2003.
She retired in 1980, after 20 years as bookkeeper for J.C. Penneys.
Mrs. Rettig was a member of the First Christian Church, Naamah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and Kappa Kappa Sigma Nu Beta Chapter.
She graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette in 1934.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at The Chapel Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Shelby County Hospice.
