Betty J. (Hey) Yanzer, 77, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.
Born July 1, 1930, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Elmer E. and Nellie (Platt) Hey. She married Jack William Yanzer on December 3, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1999.
Survivors include her son, Doug (wife, Cherry) Yanzer of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Cierra Yanzer and Chase Yanzer, both of Shelbyville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mildred L. Tungate and Shirley M. Fischer.
Mrs. Yanzer had been employed at Inlow Clinic as a laboratory technician and later as a secretary.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1947 and later trained in Elkhart to be a laboratory technician.
Mrs. Yanzer was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she retired as secretary in 1985, was a member of Triple L and the women's guild, and participated in readings and skits. She also was a member of a home economics club.
Sh loved her grandchildren and to sew and can. She entered her canning in the Shelby County Fair.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Linda Frische-Mouri officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
