Betty J. West, 81, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Major Hospital. Born July 25, 1925, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Albert Franklin and Lena (Akins) Barr. She married Charles H. West on June 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1992. Survivors include one son, Charles E. (wife, Linda) West of Shelbyville; and two grandsons, Brad West of Indianapolis and Jarrod West of Franklin. She also was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters. Mrs. West had lived in Indianapolis until 1952. After that she lived in Fairland and Shelbyville. She was employed with Pioneer Sports in Shelbyville from 1992 until retiring in 1998. She also had been employed at Kagee Corp. in Franklin from 1980 to 1989 and was a seamstress at the former Elanjay in Shelbyville from 1960 to 1979. Mrs. West was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and former member of the Shelbyville Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Kirk and the Rev. Lowell Barr officiating. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
