Betty Jean Adams

Betty Jean Adams, 82, of St. Paul, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at her residence. She was born May 21, 1934, in Decatur County, the daughter of James Robert and Sarah Louise (Coyle) Bottom. On December 14, 1952, she married Herbert Allen Adams, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1998. Betty is survived by her daughters, Jacqualyn Lea “Jackie” Crosby and husband, Tom, of Greensburg, and Robin Elaine Bratton and husband, Marshall, of Franklin; son, Mark Allen Adams of St. Paul; brothers, Dale C. Bottom and wife, Elaine McAuliffe, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, Robert W. Bottom and wife, Sue, of Waldron, and Ronald Lee Bottom and wife, Nancy, of Hampton, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Dana Chandler and husband, Andrew, Alan Crosby, Cara Chitwood and husband, Scott, Rebecca Bratton, Lauren Atwood and husband, Matthew, Paige Bratton, Anna Bratton, Dustin Adams and wife, Summer, and Sarah Adams; great-grandchildren, Cynthia Adams, Alexander Chandler, Jillianna Bratton, Amelia Chandler and Jameson Atwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mildred Coffee, Lillian Dean Hendrickson, Violet Sue Salman and Naomi Frances Schroeder; and brothers, James Walter Bottom and Chester Leon Bottom. Betty graduated from Burney High School in Decatur County in 1952. She was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of the Lewis Creek Baptist Choir for over 60 years. Betty was formerly a teacher’s aide for Shelby Eastern Schools and an insurance clerk at Union Bank and Trust, retiring in 1995. She loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Lewis Creek Baptist Church, 5998 South State Road 9, in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Rev. Harvey Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Association of Shelby County, P.O. Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or Lewis Creek Baptist Choir.
