Betty Jean Dickmann (90) was one of the best people many of us knew. She was the mom who would do absolutely anything to support and encourage her kids. She was the grandmother who could make a really bad day turn into one of the best you’ve had. She was the friend you could count on to be there for you and listen.
Betty Jean knew how to make everyone laugh and, even today, we can cherish those memories and laugh.
She loved her family and there was nothing she loved more than a house full of company. She was a story teller, and would sit and tell you stories about her family and family history with each visit. Betty always wanted to look her best and be her best, but to her family she always WAS the very best.
Betty passed away in her home on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 surrounded by those who meant the most to her. Betty Jean was born on June 12, 1926 in Shelbyville and was the daughter of Roscoe Beagle and Marie (Kelley) Fuller. She married W. Paul “Whitey” Dickmann, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1997.
Betty is survived by her sons, Fred Dickmann (Columbus), Eric Dickmann (Shelbyville), Rod Dickmann and wife Karen (Shelbyville), and Brad Dickmann (Cincinnati) and wife Lori (Shelbyville); grandchildren, Cole Dickmann, Case Dickmann, Cord Dickmann, Amanda Bunton and husband Mike, Joe Dickmann and wife Kim, Will Dickmann and wife Aalia, Kylie Dickmann, and Wesley Dickmann; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins including Thom Beagle (Shelbyville) and Sharon Baker and husband Fran (Worthington).
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Virgie Beagle; favorite aunt, Mabel Brown; sisters, Helen Conrad and Vickie Mourer; brother, Terry Beagle; and nephew, Steve Thompson.
Betty graduated from Franklin High School in 1944, where she was a cheerleader. She retired from KCL Corporation in 1984, after over 25 years.
Betty Jean rarely missed watching an IU basketball game. She loved playing cards, getting together with her KCL friends, riding along in the car to various places, and completing crossword puzzles.
She was brave and beautiful. We were all so lucky for her to touch our lives.
