Betty Jean Vance

Betty Jean Vance, 70, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Born Aug. 4, 1936, in Joiner, Arkansas, she was the daughter of James and Carrie (Watson) Morris. She married Bobby Glenn Vance on Nov. 4 1953, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1997. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Vance and Beverly (husband, Otis "Bud") Johnson, both of Indianapolis, and Brenda (husband, Mark) Shadley of Waldron; brother Junior Morris of Arkansas; grandchildren, Brittney (husband, Michael) Kalmas, Brandy (husband, John Jr.) Burgess, Brandon (wife, Gwen) Shadley; and great-grandchildren, Nicole Burgess, Brooke Burgess, Allison Burgess and Luke Burgess. Mrs. Vance lived most of her life in Shelbyville. She had been employed at General Electric Co., which later became Wellman Thermal Systems, from 1966 until retiring in 1983. Mrs. Vance was a member of Vine Street United Methodist Church and attended Christ United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ted Cutrell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Chapels, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
