Betty Jo Vannoy, 81, of Fairland, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
She was born October 12, 1935, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Archie Wendell and Cordelia (Watts) Amburgey. On July 15, 1956, she married her husband of 61 years, Robert Bruce Vannoy, and he survives.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her sons, Robert W. Vannoy and wife, Kimmie, of Fairland, and James Tracy Vannoy and wife, Sheryl, of Fountaintown; daughter, Elizabeth A. Dewey and husband, Eric, of Indianapolis; brother, Billy Ralph Amburgey and wife, Mary Rose, of New Palestine; sister, Margaret Ison of Hallie, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Amburgey and Colleen Craft; brother, Eddie Lee Amburgey; and a great-grandchild.
She graduated from Stuart Robinson High School in Letcher, Kentucky in 1955, and completed cosmetology school at House of James.
Betty was a member of the Fairland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was the clerk.
She owned and operated, Vannoy’s Beauty Shop in Fairland for 35 years, retiring in 1999.
Betty enjoyed quilting and selling Longaberger baskets.
She was very active in the Good News Club at Triton Central Elementary School.
Betty loved to spend time with and spoil her grandbabies.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at the funeral home, with Pastor Ben VonBergen officiating.
Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
