Clarence "Bud" Craig, 84, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Major Hospital.
Born March 23, 1927, in Shelby County, he was the son of Walter W. and Freida M. (Collins) Craig. He married Ada Weaver on October 9, 1946, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 1996.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including nephew, Jerry (wife, Donna) Knight of Brown County, and niece, Darlene (husband, Dennis) Leong of Madison, Wisconsin, both of whom he loved as his own; nephew, David Craig of Shelbyville, to whom he was very close; niece, Carla Black; nephew, Dan Craig; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl W. Craig; and a sister, Rebecca Gahimer.
Bud was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
He had worked at Admiral Corporation from 1946 to 1975 as a model shop foreman, then was a mill room foreman at Indiana Cash Drawer from 1975 until retiring in 1988. In 1991, he began his career at Carmony-Ewing Funeral Home, which later became Freeman Family Funeral Homes, where he was still a very important part of the Freeman Family. Among Bud's many duties, he was commonly called "the doughnut man" while enjoying serving doughnuts to the hundreds of people attending the Senior Movie each month.
Bud was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and trustee and was a member of the Men's Brotherhood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, December 2, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
