Byron M. Carmony

Dr. Byron M. Carmony, 90, of Morristown died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Born May 8, 1916, in Morristown, he was the son of Harry E. and Fannie E. (Brown) Carmony. He married Virginia Lee Nigh in September of 1941, and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Marta (husband, Ron) Williams of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Judy (husband, John) Spotora of Chicago, Ill; one son, Kevin (wife, Sue) Carmony of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Charlotte (husband, Jesse) Pitts of Brazil, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Dr. Marvin D. Carmony, J. Paul Carmony, Harry Neal Carmony, Cecil H. Carmony and Edwin "Bud" Carmony; and two sisters, Esther Nigh and Lois Posey. Dr. Carmony was a minister of the Church of the Nazarene for 41 years, serving in Harrisburg, Ill., Chicago Heights, Ill., and Elgin, Ill. He was a songwriter most known for "Then I Met Jesus," "He Became Poor" and "The Olivet Alma Mater." In later years he played the piano at the Kopper Kettle every Saturday night. He graduated from Morristown High School and attended Olivet Nazarene University, where he received three bachelor's degrees and an honorary doctorate degree. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Morristown Church of the Nazarene, 554 E. U.S. Highway 52, Morristown. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev.
