Carl I. Mohr, 69, of Fountaintown, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.
He was born August 28, 1946, in Shelby County, the son of Harland Estel “Harley” and Esther Elenora Christina (Martin) Mohr. On December 6, 1968, he married Linda Darlene Beyer, and she survives.
Carl is also survived by his daughter, Catherine Lynn Statzer and husband, Richard, of Indianapolis; sons, Scott Edward Mohr and wife, April, of Indianapolis, and Jonathan Herman Mohr and wife, Jonelle, of Lizton; brothers, Paul Mohr and wife, Rachel, of Coatesville, and Marvin Mohr and wife, Sue, of Hancock County; sister, Ruth Gentry and husband, Don, of Fountaintown; grandchildren, Wade Christian Statzer, Matthew Carl Statzer, Tessa Elisabeth Mohr, Mallory Piper Mohr, Seth Everett Mohr, Greysen Leila Mohr and Carsen Paisley Mohr; brothers-in-law, Don Beyer and wife, Dana, of Columbus and Fred Beyer and wife, Carla, of St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Vanosdol of Shelbyville and Virginia Beyer of Indianapolis; 13 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Doris Mae Kaster and Norma Jean Mohr.
Carl graduated from Triton Central High School in 1964.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era, from June 28, 1966 until June 28, 1968.
Carl was a member of St. John Lutheran Evangelical Church of Indianapolis, he was also a member of American Legion Post No. 182.
He began his work career, outside of the family farm, at Diamond Chain Company, until his entry into the service of his country. Shortly after his discharge, he began working at International Harvester (Navistar) Company in Indianapolis, where he retired in July of 2007, with 39 years of service. He enjoyed working on the farm and helped his family until 1997, then continued in that line of work with his cousins, until recently.
His parents taught him a good work ethic and he passed it on to his children, who have made him proud. His hope was for them to continue on the “good” path.
Carl’s grandchildren were extra special to him. He enjoyed helping them with their science projects, even if it was due the next day. He also enjoyed watching them play sports and perform in school programs. The grandkids enjoyed riding and driving the golf cart around the newly mowed path of the field, giving them a fast and bumpy ride. He tried to enstow upon them his expertise of fishing, although Scott needed no help in catching a 30 pounder out of the pond.
He enjoyed everything about farming and raising various animals. Although he worked hard, he still managed to enjoy some time with his family, not as much as he would have liked.
He grew a small patch of “cotton” and “tobacco” just for the fun of it.
He never met a stranger and called many a friend.
