Carl Wayne Craig, 80, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, January 23, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born June 16, 1928, in Shelby County, he was the son of Walter W. and Freida Mae (Collins) Craig. He married Virginia Mae Jackson on June 18, 1950, and she preceded him in death on July 17, 1997.
Survivors include his sons, David Craig of Shelbyville and Daniel Craig of Franklin; daughter, Carla Black of Lafayette; brother, Clarence "Bud" Craig of Shelbyville; grandson, Aaron (wife, Stephanie) Black; and great-grandchildren, Jude and Finnegan.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rebecca Gahimer.
Mr. Craig was employed at Admiral Corp. for 30 years, where he was a plant superintendent; and retired in 1991 from Shelbyville Central School as director of buildings and ground transportation. He also served as the project co-ordinator for the building of the Shelbyville Middle School.
He graduated from Waldron High School in 1946.
Mr. Craig was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, former trustee, chairman of the board and president of the Christian Men's Fellowship. He also was a member and past president of Pearson P.T.A. and past director of Indiana School Transportation Association.
He was an avid wood worker and enjoyed golfing.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan D. Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
