Carolyn Jane Mullen, 75, of Indianapolis passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born February 23, 1936, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Emerson and Mildred (Hester) Rigsbee. She married Robert Mullen on August 18, 1957, and he survives.
Other survivors include her son, Tim (wife, Tonya) Mullen of Avon; sister, Ruth Ann (husband, Ralph) Willis of New Castle; grandson, Justin Mullen of Avon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Rigsbee; and sister, Virginia Buckley.
Mrs. Mullen graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954, Ball State Teachers College in 1958 and received her master's degree from Indiana University.
She was an elementary school teacher for 36 years and taught second grade at Abraham Lincoln School in Perry Township in Indianapolis for 35 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Mrs. Mullen was a member of Garfield Park Baptist Church, where she participated in the women's missionary group, directed the children and youth choirs, sang in the choir and was an accompanist during worship services.
Carolyn enjoyed cooking, sewing and music, and she collected piano music boxes and other music boxes.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday and from 10 to 10:30 am Monday at Garfield Park Baptist Church, 1061 E. Southern Avenue in Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday at the church, with the Rev. Judith Fackenthal officiating.
