Carolyn Louise Martin, 86, of Fairland, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at her residence.
She was born January 15, 1929, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Clifford and Lola (Schmoe) Handy. She married Robert E. Martin on June 12, 1948, and he preceded her in death in November of 1971.
Survivors include her sons, Robert E. Martin, Jr., and wife, Karin, of Greenfield and Michael Martin of Shelbyville; daughters, Caroline Martin of Fairland and Christina Smith and husband, Dennis, of Greenfield; sisters, Mary Blignaut of West Lafayette and Lauretta Handy of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Constance Martin; sister, Anna Bell Handy; and grandsons, William Eastridge and Jeremiah Smith.
Carolyn graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis in 1947, and attended Community School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
She formerly worked at Community Hospital.
Carolyn had a great respect for veterans. She enjoyed woodworking and painting with oils.
She loved the Lord with all her heart and animals.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at noon, Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Campbell officiating.
Interment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
