Carolyn Lue Mills, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
She was born on June 28, 1936, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Melvin and Mildred (Bannon) Davies. On December 22, 1956, she married Glenn Mills, and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2003.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Kim Mills and wife, Denise, of Shelbyville and Brad Mills and wife, Cindy, of Fountaintown; her sister, Mary Margaret Kellam and husband, Doug, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Nathan Shaner, Lindsay Rittmeyer, Courtney Perry and husband, Ty, Kristopher Mills, Ryan Mills, Katie Mills, Whitney Pugh, and Lauren Ball and husband, Eric; great-grandchildren, James David Ball, Levi Knutsen, Benjamin Ball, and one on the way, Bryce Perry; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Jane Mills of Johnson City, Texas; nephew, Eric Mills and wife, Terry, of Johnson City; and niece, Martha Danz and husband, David, of Johnson City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debbie Cook; two nephews, Thomas Mills and David Mills; and sister-in-law, Nancy Mills.
Carolyn graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954, when she was on the May Court, and received her Registered Nursing degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.
She was an active member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, where she was part of the card ministry and served on the cemetery board. Carolyn was also a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority- Nu Chapter.
Carolyn was a registered nurse and worked at Major Hospital for 42 years, retiring in 1999. After retirement, she volunteered at Major Hospital for several years.
She enjoyed baking cookies and was well known for her brownies. Carolyn also enjoyed traveling and watching college and professional sports, particularly baseball and basketball.
Carolyn loved spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. Throughout the years she had several cats and enjoyed their company.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Harvey Taylor officiating.
Interment will be at Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County.
