Carolyn Perry English

Carolyn Perry English, 81, a lifelong Shelbyville resident, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. She was born June 14, 1933, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Dr. Garnett and Serena (Scheffler) Perry. On June 25, 1955, she married her husband of 59 years, William A. English, and he survives. Carolyn is also survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Wheeler and husband, Dave, of Shelbyville, and Julie McCarthy and husband, Tom of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Bill English and wife, Kim Skinner English of Richmond; grandchildren, Jennifer Muldoon and husband, Bradley, Sarah Dean and husband, Scott, Abby English, Betsy English, Bryce McCarthy, Brax McCarthy and Emma McCarthy; one great-grandson; nieces, Susan Wehrenberg Bergdoll, Mindy Pierce and Nancy Nygren; and nephew, John Wehrenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Sue Nygren. Carolyn graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1951 and received her bachelors of science degree in Consumer and Family Science from Purdue University in 1955. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and elder. Carolyn was also a member of the American History Club, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Daughters of the American Revolution and Delta Gamma Sorority at Purdue University. She volunteered for Major Hospital and Meals on Wheels for many years. Carolyn enjoyed sewing, traveling, genealogy and Purdue sports. She especially enjoyed loving and taking care of her grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shebyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to Purdue Booster Scholarship Fund, in care of Blue River Community Foundation, 54 W. Broadway, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
