Carrie Edna Hayes, 91, of Shelbyville, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at Morristown Manor, in Morristown. Born Sept. 30, 1913, in Humboldt, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Carey and Sarah (Vandeman) Grooms. She married Kenneth Earl Hayes, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Survivors include two sons, Charles C. Hayes of Shelbyville and Kenneth William Hayes of Kokomo; one daughter, Carol (husband, Jack) Switzer of Midland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda (Hayes) Blair and an infant; one brother; and one sister. Mrs. Hayes was a Shelbyville resident since 1982. She previously lived in Franklin. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hayes was a 70-year member of Rebekah Lodge. Private services will be at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 232 W. Broadway St. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Fairlawn Cemetery, in Decatur, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Shelby County, 110 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
