Carter "Lance" Koenig

Carter "Lance" Koenig, 72, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. Lance was born October 4, 1939, in Washington, Indiana, he was the son of Russell Bruce and Clara Louise (Pieper) Koenig. He married Kay Crafton on February 15, 1976, and she survives. Other survivors include his sons, Randy J. (wife, Cheri) Koenig of Sandborn and Scott (wife, Susan) Furgeson of Shelbyville; daughters, Rita (husband, Jim) Dale of Sandborn and Lora Furgeson of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jonathan Koenig, Madison Koenig, Justin Dale, Leslie Dale, Del (wife, Fabby) Denney, Mary Alice Furgeson and Elizabeth Furgeson; great-granddaughter, Chloe Denney; sister-in-law, Jane Koenig; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Koenig. Mr. Koenig was a former Auditor of the State of Indiana, retiring in March of 2006. He graduated from Freelandville High School in 1957, and received his bachelor?s of science degree from Indiana State University in 1973. Mr. Koenig was a member of First Christian Church, where he was active in the Christian Men?s Fellowship. He was also a member of Kiwanis, the Blue River Walking Club and helped establish the Key Club at Shelbyville High School. Lance enjoyed traveling, gardening and his grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the funeral home, with Rev. Nathan D. Wilson and Pastor Evie Stuard officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund, 118 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
