Chaplain (LTC) Retired Larry Dwain Scott, 76, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, November 17, 2010 at Heritage House in Greensburg.
Born September 4, 1934, in Bengal, Shelby County, Indiana, he was the son of Homer J. and Minnie L. (Moore) Scott. He married Carolyn Sue Allen on February 21, 1960, and she survives.
Other survivors include his children, Mark A. (wife, Laura) Scott of Shelbyville, Gina L. (husband, Eric) Kuhn of Milroy and Jonathan "J.D." (wife, Hope) Scott of Mechanicsville, Virginia; brothers, J. Arthur (wife, Elaine) Scott and Bill (wife, Mary Belle) Scott, both of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Lindsey Gamrat, Kelly Gamrat, Katie Gamrat, Blayre Scott, Collin Scott, Devon Scott, Kylee Scott and Ryan Scott; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Myron Wayne Scott and Walter "Bud" Scott; and sisters, Thelma Drake and Ruth Glasco.
Mr. Scott graduated from Boggstown High School in 1952; Butler University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1960; Christian Theological Seminary with a bachelor of divinity degree in 1963; and Long Island University with a master of science degree in 1973.
He pastored several churches, including Nineveh Christian Church for a total of 12 years and was a member of the First Christian Church, where he met and married his wife of more than 50 years and became an ordained minister in 1963.
Mr. Scott was a veteran in the National Guard for eight years and the U.S. Army, serving as a chaplain for 20 years, including one in Vietnam.
He also was a member of the American Legion and St. Joe Social Club.
He loved his family, and his grandchildren were really special to him. He enjoyed watching westerns, Colts football, IU, Purdue and Butler basketball and also hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and woodworking.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the funeral home, with Rev. Nathan Wilson and Chaplain Mike Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
