Charlene "Toots" Meltzer, 79, of Shelbyville, died Friday, April 7, 2006.
Born Sept. 23, 1926, in New Palestine, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Laura (Means) Jordan. She married Philip E. Meltzer on Jan. 5, 1952, and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kris (wife, Sandy) Meltzer of Shelbyville; one daughter, Karen (husband, Tony) Armstrong of Shelbyville; and three grandchildren, Trent Meltzer of Shelbyville, Derek Armstrong and Vanessa Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Jean Meltzer and Laura Meltzer; three sisters, Ethel Jordan, Thelma Jordan and Irene Shaw; two brothers, Estel Jordan and Lawrence Jordan; and one grandson, Zane Jordan Meltzer.
Mrs. Meltzer was a registered nurse employed at Major Hospital during the 1940s and the 1950s and then at Heritage House Convalescent Center, retiring in 1968.
She graduated from New Palestine High School in 1944 and then from St. John?s School of Nursing in Anderson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service at 4 p.m., at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating.
Interment will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Shelby County.
