Charles Donovan Schirg, 93, of Edinburgh, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1923, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles and Helen (Capwell) Schirg. On March 3, 1956, he married his wife of 60 years, Nina Lee Arnold, and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2016.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Deborah Jean Featherston and husband, Kip, of Edinburgh, and Sandra Lee Lauridsen and husband, Don, of Kouts; son, Glenn Richard Schirg and wife, Carolyn, of Galletin, Tennessee; sister, Charlotte Sheridan of Dunmore, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glen Schirg; and a sister, Grace Smith.
Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II, as a Third class boilermaker.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso. He was also a member of Amherst Masonic Lodge, where he was the Master in 1962.
Charles formerly worked at Bethlehem Steel, as general foreman of the sintering plant, retiring with 32 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and photography.
Private family services will be observed.
