Charles Elvin Upton

Charles Elvin Upton, 55, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born March 21, 1966, in Marion County, the son of Albert L. and Lela M. (Honn) Upton. Charles is survived by his mother of Ellettsville; wife, Michelle Upton of Shelbyville; daughter, Shelby Upton of Shelbyville; sons, Dawson Upton and Mason Upton, both of Shelbyville; sisters, Tresa Ewbank and husband, Jeff, and Kathy Stanley and husband, Mike, both of Ellettsville; brother, James Upton of Salem; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Peggy Pennington of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Misty Schaf and husband, Travis, of Shelbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Denney; adoptive father, Albert L. Upton; and a sister, Tammy Patterson. Charles graduated from Owen Valley High School in Spencer. He attended Shelbyville Community Church. Charles was a commercial truck driver for Johnson Trucking and Harding Group. He had formerly worked at Freudenberg NOK and sold real estate. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. Charles also enjoyed going fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Indiana University Hoosiers. Charles loved to spend time with his family and attend his children’s sporting events. A gathering of friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. A Celebration of Charles’ life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles E.
