Charles Ira Duvelius, 81, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Heritage House of Shelbyville.
He was born February 5, 1936, in Shelbyville, the son of Bernard Matthew and Dorothy (Worland) Duvelius. On December 31, 1959, he married Lucy LaRue (Worland), and she preceded him in death on June 2, 1997.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Elaine Polston and husband, Kevin, of Shelbyville; son, Brian Duvelius and wife, Kathy, of Sylacauga, Alabama; brother, Tom Duvelius of Shelbyville; sister, Millie Hutchings and husband, Tom “Jocko”, of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Garry Hook III and wife, Molly, Star Hook and Lauren Duvelius; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Gondor III, Emma Hook, Bentlee Gondor, Scarlett and Savannah.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth A. Duvelius; brothers, Paul E. Duvelius, Edward Duvelius, Leonard Duvelius and John Duvelius; sister, Mary Catherine Kremer; and grandson, Matthew Duvelius.
Charles graduated from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis in 1954.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran.
In the 1960s and 1970s, he was a milkman for Spears Dairy, later he worked at Ryobi for 14 years, retiring in 2001.
Charles was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 70, and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
