Charles Joseph Smith, 90, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his home on Simpson Lane.
Born May 10, 1914, in Shelbyville, he was the son of the late Joseph and O?Dessa A. (Fastlaben) Smith. He married Helen Willson, and she preceded him in death in 1964. He married Evelyn Webster on Sept. 24, 1966, and she survives.
Other survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Flodder of Florida, Margaret Mohr of Indianapolis and Doris Adams of Noblesville; and one brother, Harry Smith of California.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Smith; two sisters, Mary Ann (Lux) Hobbs and Rosamond Gohn; and two brothers, John P. Smith and William E. Smith.
Mr. Smith lived in Dallas, Texas, for 20 years, moving back to Shelbyville after retiring in 1986.
He had previously been employed as district sales manager for B.F. Goodrich and E.R. Carpenter Co.
Mr. Smith was an approved judge for American Kennel Club and was involved in judging dog shows throughout the United States. He and his wife were breeders of the Kerry Blue Terrier dogs.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had been invited to speak at various schools to talk about military life and his experiences pertaining to the war.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and former member of Elks Lodge and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., with the rosary recited at 6 p.m., Sunday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with the Rev. Don A. Quinn officiating.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
