Charles R. Karnes, Sr., 75, of Manilla, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born February 25, 1939, in Indianapolis, the son of Vertis and Myrtle (Smith) Karnes. He married Connie Munden on May 13, 1960, and she preceded him in death on May 5, 1998.
Survivors include his sons, Charles Karnes, Jr. and wife, Debora of Gwynneville, David Karnes and wife, Tammy of Manilla and Thomas Karnes and wife, Cheryl of Shelbyville; daughters, Tammie Fuchic of St. Paul and Beth Duvall of Manilla; brother, Allan Karnes and wife, Margaret of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jennifer Harcourt, Chad Karnes, Misty Karnes, Kyle Karnes, Zach Karnes, Frank Leeper, Adam, Leeper, Brad Karnes, Mary Karnes and Tiffany Karnes; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Charles was a member of Faith Community Church in Manilla.
He formerly worked at Detroit Steel for 12 years, PPG for 12 years and was a construction worker prior to that.
Charles enjoyed sitting in the yard and visiting with friends and neighbors. In the past, he enjoyed fishing.
He was an Indianapolis Colts fan.
Visitaiton will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the funeral home, with Pastor Charles Justus officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Community Church in Manilla.
