Charles Richard Pile, 85, of Edinburgh passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born August 15, 1924, in Shelby County, he was the son of roy and Martha (Shutt) Pile. He married Alice Haines on July 18, 1948, and she survives.
Other survivors include his children, Tobi Fisher of Hebron, Chuck (wife, Darlene) Pile, Terri (husband, Allen) Smith, and TeAnn (husband, Glenn) Kuntz, all of Edinburgh, and Toni (husband, John) Relleke of Shelbyville; brother, Robert E. Pile of Edinburgh; sisters, Patsy M. Drakeof Shelbyville and Marybelle (husband, Robert) Davies of Los Altos, California; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He wa preceded in death by his parents and brother, Oral F. Pile.
Mr. Pile was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
He farmed and worked for Ed Martin car dealership for 25 years as a car sales manager. He won the Marketing Executive Guild Award from the State of Indiana for selling the most used cars in one year. After retiring in 1975, he bough a farm and the Firestation Motors in Shelbyville.
Mr. Pile was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 in Panama.
He graduated from Mount Auburn High School in 1942.
Mr. Pile was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved all sports and was a big fan of Bobby Knight, Indiana University, Colts and NASCAR.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Interment will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
