Charles W. "Chuck" "Charlie" Davis, 92, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
Born August 4, 1915, in Shelby County, he was the son of William A. and Lillie P. (Robinson) Davis. He married Virginia E. "Ginny" Piper on September 5, 1937, and she preceded him in death on January 7, 1996.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheryl "Sherry" Alvis of Shelbyville; sister-in-law Mary (Logan) Davis of Fairland; and grandsons, Ben Giant and Nik Giant, both of Indianapolis, Kelly Alvis and Pat Alvis, both of Shelbyville, and Craig Alvis of Waldron.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barney Davis, Roy Davis and Bob Davis; and sisters, Elsie Fisher and Gail Franklin.
Mr. Davis had owned and operated David Well Drilling, where he was a water well driller. He also was a farmer and did electrical and plumbing work.
He was active with the Shelby County Fair.
Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre of 20 months.
He graduated from Waldron High School in the mid 1930s.
Mr. Davis was a member of Waldron United Methodist Church, Shelbyville Masonic Lodge, 33rd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.
He was a good father, grandfather, neighbor and friend.
Mr. Davis and his wife had traveled to many different countries and through out the United States.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted.
