Chester Irvin Stone, 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Waldron Health and Rehabilitation in Waldron.
He was born January 10, 1926 in Indianapolis, the son of Elmer and Emma (Russe) Stone. On February 18, 1949, he married his wife of 66 years, Velma Dodd, and she survives.
Chester is also survived by his daughters, Cynthia “Cyd” Kladden of Indianapolis, Cheryl “Sherry” Stone and husband, Greg Hudson, of Shelbyville and Aimee A. Shoopman and husband, Scott, of Fishers; grandchildren, Zak, Kerry, Erin, Kaitlan, Danny and Brooke; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Christy Sue Stone; and brother, Russell Stone.
Chester attended Howe High School in Indianapolis and was drafted into the U.S. Army, during his senior year. He served his country during World War II, as a medic in Europe and Japan.
He formerly attended Woodside United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Chester was as a supervisor for Indianapolis Power and Light Transportation Department, retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed restoring and showing antique farm equipment and engines. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his horse, Katie.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Bob Campbell officiating.
Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
