Chester Wray "Chet" Sawyer, 72, of Flat Rock passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at his home.
Born April 16, 1938, in Fairland, he was the son of Hallie Sawyer and Virgie (Harden) Kroening.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy Massey of Noblesville, Ruth Nelson of Shelbyville, and Lynn (husband, Lindsey) Lewis of Flat Rock; brother, Bob Sawyer of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jacqueline (husband, David) Stanley, Stephanie (husband, Jake) Salmond, Maranda Lewis, Desirae Markley, Brandon Sawyer, Shea and Jed; and great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Gabrielle, Landen, Nathan, Dakota, Syndney and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charles Kroening; and son, Larry Sawyer.
Mr. Sawyer was born and raised in Shelby County and attended Shelbyville High School.
He was a musician and formerly owned and operated the Blue Flame and Snug Harbor bars.
Mr. Sawyer attended Hope's Point Church.
He enjoyed playing the guitar.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
