Christopher Asher, Jr.

January 12, 1925 — March 8, 2014

Christopher Asher, Jr., 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. He was born January 12, 1925 in Bargersville, the son of Christopher and Clara (Tucker) Asher. He married Myrna York on February 27, 1961, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Jonna Asher and Kristi Asher, both of Shelbyville; sister, Esther Stewart of Needham; sister-in-law, Betty Asher of Yelm, Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Hubbard; brothers, James Asher, Lester Asher, Bill Asher, Charles Asher, Robert Asher, Henry Asher, Virgil Asher and Gene Asher. Mr. Asher was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He retired from farming in 1982. In 1985, he opened and currently owns, Unique Creations in Metamora. Christopher enjoyed playing basketball with his brothers. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the local military committee. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Johnson County. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
