Clara Louise McDowell

Clara Louise McDowell, 73, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. She was born February 16, 1941, in Greenfield, the daughter of Jerry Earl and Evelyn (Keller) Stiers. She married William Michael McDowell on August 8, 1960, and he preceded her in death on December 11, 1970. Survivors include her children, Sherry Smith and husband, Thomas of Shelbyville, Michael McDowell and wife, Mary, Larry McDowell and wife, Amy, Brian McDowell and wife, Pam, all of Shelbyville; sisters, Marsha Monday of Spiceland, Shirley Campbell and husband, Dave, of Greenwood, Mary Tindall and husband, Walter, of Hope and Marilyn Bartlett of Shelbyville; brothers, Paul Stiers and wife, Ann of Shelbyville, Ronnie Stiers and wife, Korrinna of Greenwood; grandchildren, Shannon Doyle, Misty Wallace, Susan Boswell, Melissa Crafton, Ashley Dorsett, Megan McDowell, Derrick Russell, Kimberly Russell, Tyler McDowell, Jennifer McKenny, Kellie Pittman, Adam Pittman, Chris Cline and Jonathan Cline; great grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, Dennis, Jalen, Bailey, Rushelle, Danica, Genevieve, Alexis, Quaylynn, Haidyn, Xain, Blake, Bryson, Jesse, Bailey, Addison and Carson; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Carol Spurling and Jan Wright; brothers, Bob Bates and Jerry Stiers. Clara was a lifelong resident of Shelby County. She attended Calvary Baptist Church. Clara formerly worked in the kitchen at Heritage House retiring in 2012, after 25 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge No. 2118 and the Aerie Eagles Lodge No. 766. Clara enjoyed traveling. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the funeral home, with Pastor Keith Ellis officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Shelby County.
