D. Claudine Ellington

D. Claudine Ellington, 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was born April 24, 1928, in Noble Township, Shelby County, Indiana, the daughter of Benjamin Weidner and Sallie (Shaw) Fuchs. On June 17, 1949, she married her husband of 55 years, Carl W. Ellington, and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2004. Claudine was the devoted mother of, Roger Ellington and wife, Kimberly, Carla Ellington, and Randal Ellington and fiancee’, Dee Goble; sister, Catherine Snyder; stepbrother, Mike Fuchs and wife, Kathy; granddaughter, Dawn Ellington Nelson; step-grandson, Christopher Sweeney; great-grandchildren, Destiny Nelson and Dayton Nelson; sidekick and best friend, Emily Alvis; several nieces and nephews; and her fur baby, Smokey. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Florine Bentley; brothers-in-law, Ralph Bentley and David H. Snyder; lifelong friend, Sue Lanigan; and her many four legged friends. Claudine graduated from Waldron High School in 1946. She attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Claudine lived in Indianapolis for 22 years. She formerly worked at Camp Atterbury Separation Center, Indiana Bell, Carney Hatchery and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She was also a housewife and homemaker. Claudine was a member of the Shelby County Historical Society and Shelby County Extension Homemakers. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and helped with the Brownies troop. Claudine also assisted with DeMolay and Job’s Daughters. Claudine enjoyed crafts, sewing, genealogy, traveling with her family and her rose gardens, and she was a sports enthusiast. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
