D. Jean Walton

D. Jean Walton, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at her residence. She was born August 29, 1935, in Waldron, the daughter of Herrell and Helen (McDaniel) Cummings. On August 29, 1953, she married Robert W. Walton, and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1992. Jean is survived by her daughters, Leesa Walton of Wilmington, Ohio, Denise Lingenfelter of Indianapolis and Lori Walton of Shelbyville; brothers, Lewis William Cummings and wife, Pat, of New Whiteland and Carl Francis Cummings and wife, Regina, of Columbus; grandchildren, Kaylee Lingenfelter and Tyler Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, LouAnn Walton; sisters, Eileen Macke and Cecelia Cummings; and a brother, Loren Cummings. Jean was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and loved her church family. She attended Shelbyville High School, and graduated from Day Adult Technical High School in Indianapolis. Jean was a cashier at Krogers for 23 years, retiring in 1997. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bruce Banister officiating. Interment will be at Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church for repair of the chimes, 27 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176. Jean’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Lauri Mahley, Jim Pruitt and Brittney Copp for the love and kindness they showed to their mother.
