Dale Franklin Barlow, 93, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his home.
Born December 16, 1914, in Shelby county, he was the son of Elmer W. and Vashti D. (Harris) Barlow. He married Inez A. Kendall on September 14, 1935, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Kenneth D. (wife, Sharlene) Barlow of Marshall, N.C.; granddaughters, Debbie (husband, Mike) Cameron of New Boston, Mich., Dianne McNew of Shelbyville, Donna (husband, Glenn) Knox of Ocala, Florida, and Darlene Janis of Logansville, Georgia; nine great-granchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Bernice Barlow; infant son Harold Eugene Barlow; brother, Paul E. "Pete" Barlow; stepbrother, William M. Scott; stepsister, Cleo (Scott) Antle.
Mr. Barlow had been a farmer in Hendricks Township for 55 years, retiring in 1983. He resided in Pompano Beach, Florida from 1990 to 2006, then returned to Shelbyville.
He graduated from Boggstown High School in 1932.
Mr. Barlow was a member of Bengal Christian Church for 56 years, where he was a past deacon and the treasurer for 25 years; Fraternal Order of Eagles; and a charter member of Marietta Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Hendricks Township Advisory Board; and the F.H.A. committee for two terms.
Mr. Barlow managed softball teams in Shelbyville for 20 years and was the official timer at Indiana State Fair for 15 years for harness racing.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 s. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bengal Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Kirkman and Pastor Dan Owens officiating.
Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.
