Dallas Gene "Doc" Slater, 62, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, New Heart Center, in Beech Grove.
Born May 21, 1943, in Anderson, he was the son of Aaron O. and Mary E. (Saulman) Slater. He married Gaye "Lynn" Acker on Oct. 16, 1982, and she survives.
Other survivors include his parents of Bruceville; two sons, Christopher L. Slater of Indianapolis and Dallas Gene Slater Jr. of Sumner, Ill.; two daughters, Kyla J. Thompson of Indianapolis and Deena L. Willis of Pasadena, Calif.; and one granddaughter, Jillian Taylor Willis of Pasadena.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Carson Slater and one sister, Jeanetta Morrison.
Mr. Slater had lived in Morristown since 1987.
He had been employed by Kirby Risk Corp. from 1987 to present and by T.P. Electric in Vincennes from 1982 to 1987.
Mr. Slater graduated in 1961 from Bruceville High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the 1960s, and a member of the Naval Reserve during 1980s and the Army National Guard.
Mr. Slater was a member of the Morristown Christian Church, American Legion Post No. 70 in Shelbyville and a former member of the American Legion in Vincennes.
He was an avid military buff.
Local visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St.
Local funeral services will be at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Visitation will also be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Goodwin Family Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., in Vincennes.
A second funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Goodwin Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Turner officiating.
Burial will be Thursday at Royal Oak Cemetery, in Wheatland, with graveside military rites conducted by veterans organizations.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hurricane Relief Fund in care of The Salvation Army, 136 E. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
