Daniel Hey, Jr., 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Waldron Health and Rehab in Waldron.
He was born November 15, 1923, in Shelby County, the son of the late Daniel Sr. and Camille (Whaley) Hey. He married Joyce Miles on August 12, 1954, and she preceded him in death on November 4, 1997.
Survivors include his sister, Emily Sue Alvis of Shelbyville; grandson, Noah Montgomery of Indianapolis; and granddaughter, Madelyn Montgomery of Shelbyville; great-grandchildren, Carter Montgomery and Zoey Myers, both of Shelbyville; special friend, Kay Wilgus of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughters, Lisa Hey Montgomery and Julie Jean Hey; sister, Ann Davis; and a nephew, Bill Alvis.
Dan graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1941 and from the University of Missouri Printing School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Dan was a member of the First Christian Church.
He began his career as a printer with the Stars and Stripes Newspaper in Germany for servicemen from 1952 through 1964; he was the owner and editor of the Brownstown Banner in Jackson County from 1965 through 1972; he built log homes at Doe Valley Resort, Kentucky in 1972 and 1973; he worked at the Tippecanoe Press from 1974 through 1978; was the manager at the Franklin Press in 1978 and 1979; and from 1980 until retiring in 1982, he managed at the Butler University Press Shop.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Thursday, May 28 , 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral will be at 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
