Darlene Ann Nickles

Darlene Ann Nickles, 61, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born February 2, 1947, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Charles "Gordon" and Maxine Ellen (Losey) Sparks. She married G. Thomas Nickles on June 25, 1965, and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, Gregory T. Nickles of Shelbyville and Douglas G. (wife, Dayna) Nickles of Dallas, Texas; brother, Richard Eugene Sparks of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Payton Nickles and Grant Nickles. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Nickles was a secretary for 12 years at Indiana University Medical Center in the Division of Bio Statistics. She was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from October 1977 to October of 1980, and played in the Army Band. Mrs. Nickles graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1965, and received a bachelor's degree from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. She was a member of First Christian Church and played the organ at First Christian Church and Evangelical United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2315 S. Riley Highway. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Dr. Steven Bohall and Nathan D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St.
